The M-1938 Compass, Prismatic has a similar design to the early Lensatic Compass but its cylindrical case stands higher and is not squared off with a ruler edge like the later lensatic compass models , it has some type of liquid inside.
The compass was used by officers and technical staff, and was not issued in large numbers to enlisted men.
also comes with a brown leather felt lined carrying case with wire hanger to wear on a US web belt or cartridge belt.
These were relatively rare and make interesting pieces to add to WWII collections
hi battlegear ,thats an interesting piece ,one thing ive just noticed ,i have a set of us snow goggles and im sure they have the very same case ,are you familiar with the type i refer too ,thanks james
Yes, I think I remember seeing a set of goggles with the same type of leather pouch, the pouches are probably a universal pouch for other items, just like first aid pouches were also used as compass pouches.
great info ,thanks battlegear my goggle pouch has small stiched side inserts for holding spare lenses
