This form is documented in the Josephinenhütte Master Book, ca. 1942, as a design of Sigfried Haertel (1870-1943). Professor Haertel was a painter who exhibited a preference for cubist, geometric forms, surface cutting, and sparse painting. From 1921 forward, the Josephine Glassworks relied heavily on surface cutting. The color is really striking in person - it is indigo colored lead crystal, mold blown, cut with 8 broad facets on the top half, 16 on the lower. A stylized silver galvanized decoration is applied that is (to me) in some ways reminiscent of the floral patterns of the Vienna Werkstätte, which was an early influence of Professors Pfohl and Haertel.

Thanks, Rick - it was a bad photo special - the design of the silver galvanized decoration drew me to it and made me think it was probably better than it appeared in the auction photos - and it is :)

Definitely a credit to his genius ! I'd like to see it in true day light but it's so beautiful I can just imagine it's richness. :..: thanx !!
