Veedol appears to have been the brand of Oil that Flying A sold in the Olden Days. I'm not sure why the Flying A and Veedol signs are in such hi demand and cost so much but it must have something to do with Capatilism and supply and demand? This old VEEDOL sign came from a Picker last year who bought it from a collector in Western Utah and I think we paid waaaaaay too much for it since it can't be mounted up on a pole with our Big signs. Pretty nice sign I will say and it is very heavy for its size.
When we have to pay what appears to be 3-4 times what a sign this size ought to be worth, it sort of ruins the collecting hobby for me. Any one else feel that way? I just talked to a guy yesterday in Oregon, who just sold a big sign for $9000 and I would have loved to have the sign but figured it was worth a max of $3000 and that was pushing it!!!! Oh well that's the economics of big demand and short supply! Keep on Hunting as the fun is still in the hunt.

They are worth what people are willing to pay, I choose not to pay ridiculous prices:) my happy medium is 200/400 dollar range.

While I agree totally, unfortunately we have to pay considerably more than that for the big signs we are collecting. It's crazy these days! Not only are they expensive but the shipping is a nightmare as well! Oh well! It's all in the Hunt! Just finding a 6' Flying A has been impossible for us so far? Can u help us? We also want a big Richfield and can't find one.

The flying A sign is a tough one to find, I passed a 6 foot sign up a couple years back and regret it ever since:( I thought a thousand was to much to pay for it.

You were right! It was too much to pay for it then and it's still too much to pay for one, BUT we have to pay what we have to pay to get these signs these days. A few years back no one was really bothering with the big heavy signs much and they didn't have demand so therices were more on the 4' and smaller signs than on the big ones. No more! Ever since we started collecting the prices have gone nuts! Why is it always thst way? Keep on hunting! There has to be one out there somewhere!

I do remember finding a Flying A sign with the pole still sitting in front of the gas station on Craigslist in N Carolina or S Carolina they had an offer they said for 5,000 but we're holding out to get 10,000. I just remembered it a few minutes ago. I think I made myself forget it because it is the most outrageous thing I've ever heard.

Exactly! People are ruining the fun of a great hobby by gouging and inflating prices so that only the rich can have some of the signs. That part is sad. If it weren't for the "pickers" who do it for a living, we wouldn't have much of a collection, however, the Pickers we deal with are not the greedy ones like the one you are describing. I understand that hey have to make a reasonable living, but gouging is not reasonable! We will just keep hunting and eventually we will find one or maybe be able to trade for one as we do have a few very cool things that are "extras" or doubles that are also rare and hard to find. We shall see?
