My computer's not behaving enough for me to do this - but why not just throw the words into Google Translator? I would guess the language to be Italian, but languages aren't my forte and Google Translator will usually auto-detect. The images are religious in nature: the crucifiction, agony in the garden, etc (on the one) and saints (or perhaps priests/monks) (on the other). Again, I'm guessing, but that should give you a place to start. In terms of the year, it is on the cover in Roman numerals. If I'm reading it correctly MDCCCXXXVIII. Translated into Arabic numbers would be 1838.

It is Italian - simply use google translate - The title "Le Tre Porte Di Bronzo" translates to "The Three Doors Of Bronze" - you can easily search this by the title and the author.
