Does anyone know anything about this or it's value? I have looked for six months on the internet and have never found anything about it. It came from my grandmother's house, I don't know if it's antique or something that she acquired later in life. It's about 9" high and 8" wide and the side is about 3" wide. It rocks back and forth. It is blown glass and the bottom is marked E. Bentley PAT July 15, 1890.

Wow, that was quick. To think I spent six months looking for any information on it. So, it most likely is from the 1890's. I might have to put this one away until my teenagers are out the house. Thank you!!

I don't know if you're interested...but apparently there may have been at least 2 Charles E Bentleys at the time. One was a third party candidate from Iowa/Nebraska that I couldn't connect back to this bottle in any way (I guess it was a popular name at the time...) The other was a Charles E Bentley out of Chicago (in the late 1910s, early 1920s). This CE Bentley apparently had the friendship of one W.E.B. DuBois. http://credo.library.umass.edu/view/full/mums312-b010-i439 Concerned that I'd already found one CE Bentley that didn't match anything on the patent, so I proceeded with caution. In this case, though the cities aren't a match, it wouldn't be surprising for a NYer to be in Chgo within 30 years...especially one NYer whose signature looks awefully like one who was in Chgo 30yrs later chatting with Du Bois. I'll let you draw the conclusions and do the further research. The fun might just be beginning...

Yes, I am interested in all the information I can get. This gives me a place to start. I have so many items from my grandmother's house that we "rescued" after Katrina that were in 8' of water. I am still going through boxes but most I have been able to find info on. Although with this dencanter I couldn't even find one picture. I found references to the patent from that date (Bentley) but it didn't match the image. The research is what I have enjoyed the most and this one's connection with Dubois makes it even more intriguing.
