Phil- I have read various sources online that suggests the story was set in Asian culture/country. As a gross generalization I think most people think of Aladdin -they think Middle East, or sometimes India. It has lovely illustrations and they seem to paint a picture of being set within an Asian culture, like Thailand, or what was once names Siam. Thanks for the comment.
