I found this bottle on land in South Carolina owned by a friend. She bought the property in the 1950s, but it was originally settled by people from England back about 400 years ago. In digging some daffodils bulbs on the property, I came across this bottle. My friend said it was an old Clorox bottle, but in researching the Clorox website, I seem to find that all their bottles have the actual word CLOROX on them. This bottle has the words (embossed on the side) CLO-WHITE. I'm thinking that it may be some other kind of bleach product. The bottle was manufactured by the Owens-Illinois Glass Company, and at the bottom (side) it says Duraglas. I researched that and found that the code numbers on the bottom stand for Owens-Illinois, made in Newark, Ohio, in 1939. I'd like to know if this bottle is actually a Clorox bottle or was there also a bleach product back in the day called CLO-WHITE. The codes on the bottom are an I within an O. To the right is the number 10, which I found was Newark, Ohio, and to the left is the number 9, which seems to indicate 1939. Additionally, under the I in the O, there is a number 1. I found that that was a "mold #." Any ideas about this bottle?

Oops, I meant to the left at the bottom of the bottle is the number 10, and to the right is the number 9, indicating 1939.

Clo-White was a registered trademark of the Clo-White Company, Hampton, GA. -- Also covered bleach products but nothing to do with the Clorox Company which is based in Oakland, CA

That's what I thought. It had to be another company because Clorox has their whole name on all their bottles. Guess this was a cheaper brand of bleach. Hmmmmm.

I can add that my bottle has the figure of a bird in flight just about the CLO-WHITE letters. Any other thoughts?

Clo-White was a bleach much like Clorox. It was manufactured in Savannah, GA, by the Coastal Chemical Company, which produced many other laundry products and soaps under it's own brand names. One of the other products I remember was Ko-Kem fabric softener. Coastal's products were marketed regionally in the Southeast.
