Not a very good week for shopping the thrifts I'm afraid. Donations are down all over the area. Salvation even has signs in their window that they need donations sooo........This is a re-post from a year ago. I've been reading the posts about the great Murano vs China debate. This is a good example of "what it is" being more important that "what it's not". What it is is a wonderful piece of art glass. What it's not is anywhere near Italy. That being said I only had one suggestion after all this time that it's possibly Rikaro crystal. There are a few more glass people here on CW than in the past year so I thought I'd re-post and get some fresh opinions.
Original post 1 year ago:
Found this awesome hand blown art glass fish at Volunteers of America this afternoon. It's large at 15 1/2 " tall and done in four colors. I love the ruby red fins and tail. The body is hollow and open at the mouth. I won't even try to ID it but it looks vintage judging by the bottom. It's also in perfect condition ! -Mike-
Here's a few examples of "NOT Murano" glass I have in my collection. That does "Not" mean I love them any less though.

Great Post Mike. Yup, there are always the debate over Murano vs Chinese debate. When a person gets to know some Murano -- you can see it is dripping with quality. Chinese glass usually will have waves in the glass -- waves around the bottom base, the quality is just not there (when you compare it to the masters of Murano).
Still even IF it is Chinese -- and you like it -- That is all the matters. It is still something you like, and still is a Decor piece.
What gets to me is there are so many pieces all over the Net that are Chinese piece with the word "Murano" tagged to it -- just in order to up-sell the item. Then the internet get congested with these pieces, and when a Newbie (as I was one too) search the Net and see these so called Murano Pieces (NOT) you think its gotta be Murano .......after all it is on the Internet.
I have know people that have contacted sellers on Ebay to tell them the piece they are selling is NOT Murano but Chinese. A lot of them do not like to hear that of course and do not change the post at all. My question is -- HOW is this *accurately* describing the item. I do not do Ebay so I do not know. But I have seen items removed/taken down with a notation that "item was not described correctly". So if that is the case - why is Chinese glass up on Ebay with the description Murano?? I do not know.....
Also I have seen other glass pieces on Ebay with the saying the item is *signed* and you look at the item and it has a paper label on it. I think this is so funny. A label does not make it a signature....... roflmao. A label is a label, a signature is a signature.
Thanks for the Post. The debate will always be there.....LOL. But if you like it -- what does it matter.
Mike, I am a Scorpio too
Hi
Mike, I love the post, great ideal,,,,,;)
Debate will be always there, if not, will be
boring.
I wish you greatest finds.
Alan
Thanks for the "loves" and comments Rose and Alan I knew this would interest you guys. The only real Murano I have are a few paper weights and I think the adventurine figure that Rick ID'd for me. The learning curve on glass has always seemed pretty steep to me ...lol.
