Does anyone out there know anything about this painting. It is painted on canvas. I see it for sale on the internet for various prices...so what, exactly, is it? When I purchased it (years ago) in a junk store, I assumed it was a mass-produced piece and it still has that kind of feel. I read stories that one artist painted it. I read other stories that several artists painted these. Since I have now purchased better paintings (even another Sea Captain portrait) this found its way to a closet. Any information appreciated.
A quick google will update you. If that fails use the artist name along with 1970.
fhrjrz2, That is how I got the info that I have but I will look again! Thank you!
Several posted on CW - he painted himself (self portraits) in various garb

Keep in mind Hemingway and the Old Man and the Sea rather than Sea Captain. This image is all over the Internet.

I bought a similar portrait for my Mom with my first paycheque in the '80's. We bought it in Bellingham Washington. I also remember seeing it in a motel room in the movie Me Myself and Irene! lol
My Mom's Granda died on the Lusitania and she used to tell people that this was him as an inside joke.
amck,
Thanks for the interesting information. I love the story about the Lusitania! Thank you so much for sharing!
