This is the 2nd of my girls from a recent estate sale - I picked the 4 photos I thought would give the most information in the allowed 4 pics.
It has the Bruno Schmidt heart & letters logo, and the mold number 500.
(**I'm learning quite a bit of the basics these days!!)
I can't identify the other marking below that... and it brings up questions that I would appreciate help with, if anyone has the time & patience :)
- When dealing with reproductions, is there a source for identifying the marks? If so, I haven't stumbled across it yet.
- And on the same note, once the maker is identified, how does a person identify the particular artist?
I apologize if these are extremely basic questions, but coming into these dolls with no experience, I have found as I research that there are so many variables!!
Entire body is bisque - and she is about 16" tall. There are no other markings on her body, though I haven't checked the bottom of her feet.
(Sorry, her moccasins were not coming off without a fight, so I left them in place!)
Don't you just love her farmer's tan??
Her wig is not marked, but her head measure about 7.25 - 7.5" just about the opening at the top.
Thanks in advance- hope everyone has a great day~
** forgot to add that next to Vernon Seeley, the year appears to be 1980
She is made from a mold by Vernon Seeley who did make fine molds of antique dolls . She is a reproduction as they made a exact mold of Antique doll . Was bought and painted by someone in a doll making class , This mold was made to be a Oriental doll but whoever painted her just did a basic face , The oriental original is a sought after doll . And yours was made in 1997
She should be dark skin and oriental eyes

oh and yes the mark is Bruno Schmidt :-) A German Co
Oh wait she has a close mouth let me check on that since mold had a open mouth ok
Pull her head up a bit and see if there is another number under persons name ok .
She maybe a head by Bahr Proschild that Bruno used in that case there should be another number low on neck
Yes, I pulled her head up a little and there is a slight impression of a number there - but very light, very shallow- but looks like a 7.
Thanks for looking the 7 is head size so that didn't help . I will get out my books today to see why maker and mold are right but she has a closed mouth ok
Can't tell you how much I appreciate your time, effort and KNOWLEDGE!
After reviewing her she is not a 500 mold the mold number was under Vernon's Name or under the extra heart that was put on doll below the BSW one . When mold was made the numbers were faint and did not transfer to mold . Vernon normally did molds of very sought after dolls of the originals which would be very expensive to buy . He did not do common dolls . Who ever painted her used the 500 mold to make her dark and a Indian . But her real mold numbers are not showing up . you can see under his name a spot that either made in Gemany was or the dolls mold number . I will continue to try and figure out which mold she is .
