Hi all! Im looking for any info i can find about these dogs as i know very little,my dad passed in his 90s and always told the story that these dogs had been brought to this country on a sailing ship by his grandfather,he said when he was very young he was never allowed to touch them unless he was sick, then his mom would wrap them in a towel and he could lay in the bed with them and pretend they were real dogs, however he could have been mixed up as his mind wandered from time to time...any info on these would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

I got a few perspectives on mine... You might want to review those remarks. Or you can always have them reviewed by an antique dealer. I saw a place in NY a couple of years ago, that only sold these... And quiet expensive too. I asked if he could review mine. He told me I needed to ship them to him and pay an appraisal fee... I decided to not take that route :)

Thank you again Drfluffy! Now knowing what they are i will change these to mystery solved...i checked ebay and the price of these seems all over the place but i was a bit disappointed in their value, mine do seem to have age showing in the finish but are still excellant looking so i hope they are on the high end of the price range. Slotman.

The bottom can be most telling. Real is made of clay pottery, not white ceramics or porcelain. The gold paint would be mellowed and not mirror like.

      Any marks in bottom?
    10. slotman slotman, 10 years ago
Hi Joe! There are no markings on the bottom...i added a couple more pics, the dogs look to be made from 2 halves and there appears to be an air hole in the back of each one...also in places where the gold looks thin i can see a green color under it and around the edges of the gold...hope this helps
