The first of several cedar boxes belonging to my mother. This one is lined in a white/bright pattern with a pink ribbon across the inside top. Is the metal brass: top, front, hinges, and each end? It is discolored. The lock would not open, maybe some spray would help. The only Mark on the bottom is RXX 325. Does anyone know what that might mean or what the contents of the box might have been?

I posted this several years ago. Does anyone now have any ideas about this box? Thanks! Nancy

My mother had several similar boxes which she used to store photographs or jewelry.
I remember when one of the boxes was new and it contained candy, of all things!!
Her boxes were beautifully carved and one or 2 had an oval picture (landscape, I think) on the top.
The candies were assorted, like those of a Whitman’s Sampler, and there were 2 layers of them in little papers similar to cupcake paper liners.
Google “vintage cedar candy boxes” and I think you will find similar ones.

Thanks to you Watchsearcher! She liked candy or my Dad may have given it as a gift. This comforts me very much. Nancy

Nancy, that sounds like my mother; she always liked to have assorted candies and cookies handy.
And these boxes were so nicely made and very pretty!
It would have been a sweet present from your dad! I’m glad I could help with the information.
