This was a watch I bought at a seized govt. auction. Has quite a history from the last owner before me. Carlos Lehder AKA "Crazy Charlie" was arrested in Colombia by U.S. federal agents for cocaine trafficking and spirited back to the states where he was tried in the city where I live, in Federal court and subsequently sentenced to "life without parole". He was wearing this watch when arrested or so I was told. Kinda scary thinking of what this watch may have witnessed and just how much money it saw change hands. I had these last two posts (this watch & the other art deco example), posted together, but felt them old enough and worthy enough to post separately. I am told this is a watch from the early 1950's. Carlos must have been owed some money and thus the way he may have ended up with this piece. All I know is that this watch is a real attention getter (which I don't need or want) and I've never seen links this large on a wrist watch. It weighs in excess of 100 grams between the case and the band or a little over 3-ounces of solid 14k gold. Needless to say, it is seldom worn and spends all of its time locked away in a dark bank vault. Sometimes I wonder what causes me to procure the things I do. Oh yea, to "officialfuel", I'll let you borrow the 44 magnum and the watch if you let me borrow the Vette. Just for a weekend. Whadda ya say??? lol lol
Man you have some great stuff and even greater stories. Wish I could trade for the watch or official fuels vette for a weekend
bahamaboy you know where the keys are, just make sure you bring her back in one piece and a tank of gas! LOL :-) Have a greaat day my friend.
I always revert back to that "saying" on Pawn Stars. Everything here has a story...and... a price. Well the 1st part is always true. Not so much on the last part. Thanks to both of you guys for taking a look and for making a comment. I'm pretty sure the story on the watch is true but not being there when the "bust" went down, I wouldn't stake my life on it. But really, thanks again officialfuel & senor-trunk to look at some of my "babies".
Again Kerry you've showed me you've got great taste and some what a sense of larceny, lol. Thanks for the story and a glance at your treasures
You know, looking back, I've had two wives and several friends/aquatints tell me in so many words that I was not very smart to keep buying and trading for all of the things I now have. Mostly it was my 2nd wife that was constantly dissuading me from more and more coin and precious metal purchases in general. Of course I would always ignore that advice along with keeping about 90% of exactly what I bought a closely guarded secret. And the whole time while I didn't really pay that much attention to anyone when it came to these comments, I still had a little voice continuously ask me, Is this additional expenditure wise? And I always answered the same way. Aw, it may not be all that wise, but it makes me happy and it makes me feel "not poor". And that's really all I needed to hear from myself. Today, looking back, I just wished I could have been more "outta hand" in my constant purchases. Because all things along these "collectible lines" have probably been some of the smartest moves I've made in my entire life. Thanks for taking the time to look and thanks for the sidebar confirmation that maybe what I've been doing for the last 30 years HAS BEEN maybe a good thing after all. Actually thanks to all of you that share this same sickness & addiction. There is nothing like "affirmation" in numbers.
well said bahamma boy. "Refining Yesterday for Tomorrow" Thats my motto, it may not make me rich, but keeps me active, keeps me learning and feels great when something comes out looking good
Very well put, but now you can look back and see that the smart one is the one posting these and it's their loss for questioning you intel. I gotta say you've got it happening and the addiction just goes with the name (Kerry) lol, again thanks for sharing
Thank you Kerry for your comments. As in "misery loves company" so does "others committed to their hobbies" love company as well. Happy Collecting/hoarding!
Best regards, Kerry
