Are these two piece with a single flat head screw in the middle of the left side holding them together?
Can you tell us how tall they are? How long?
Don't let me scare you away. I have no doubt these may be Hubley but the size and parts make a major difference.
No screw , heavy cast iron 3lbs each 4inches tall
OK, there were a couple different sizes of these that were made by Hubley. The smaller ones were used as a paper weight and there was a small slot where the mouth is, that was used as a bookmark holder. As I recall they were only 2 or 3 inches tall. In that you have the pair I would say you have the version that was made as book ends. These were also used as door stops but I believe the door stop was about 5 pounds. The books would be between the dogs as you display them in picture #1. Researching anything Hubley isn't easy and measurements and weight are very important. Reproductions always have different measurements and weight. When the Hubley molds were sold all markings that identified them as being Hubley were removed. These could very well be from an original Hubley mold and not bear the name or item number. It is more common for numbers to be called mold or casting numbers but for some reason every Hubley I have researched and found was recorded as the item number. They were common to find up in New England but since I moved south I have only seen reproductions. If you intend collecting Hubley it can be a pain to research and keep an eye out for anything marked Fish - Hubley or Hubley - Fish. Some of it is quite rare but you need to know your prices. Thanks for sharing your pair.
Thanks for the info my first pair of hubleys . They were from a dumpster I was picking out of thanks again for your helpful hints
Sweet -- I am going to have to read up on these -- if I can find any info.
