    Post # 499.....LOL

    Have you seen one of these? A Purse ashtray, so that the lady always was a lady for her husband too IF he needed a smoke in a place when they were out. It was my Mom's. From around the 1960's era. When *smoking* was an acceptable thing to do for both Men / Ladies. Yes, this has had a bit of a hard life. But considering it was carried, and banged around in a purse - it shows its character. I imagine there were Blue stones ( or pearls ) or something in the corners at one time but they are long gone. It had its own little handle to hold onto if you needed just to hold it and there no table to put it on. About 2 inches by 2 inches. It kept your ashes and butts in there till you had a place to put them. Probably was really Pretty when it was *New* years ago. I remember my Mom and Dad using this at functions.

    A Blast from the Past -- From my family stuff. Ever seen one?

    Hope you enjoy!! ;-)

      The center stone looks like a mini globe - here's some similar;

      Rose, I have a couple similar boxes, always thought they might be "pill" or snuff boxes... Yours is superb and very unique

      Thanks -- I have a pic somewhere where my Mom & Dad are at some function and my Mom is sitting holding it on her knee, as her legs are crossed. Smoking...and You can see a tiny bit of this in her hand

      Beautiful. And so much nicer for you because you know it's history. :-) I have only seen a couple of these over the years. Definitely not something you find every day.

      @freiheit -- Glad that this helps to show explain your mystery. Smoking and ashtray things ARE the new Collectible -- as time change. So worth to keep/collect.
