Altough this is not my first vintage bike it is my first military one. This bicycle was found near to the irish army training centre on the curragh in county kildare. When i recieved the bike it had been hand painted black and had rusted in places it was missing one pedal but luckily it was found, i have lovingly restored it to its original condition with help from the engineers on the curragh
The bicycle was made by BSA in England and is believed to have been one of the first vehicals imported into ireland by its newly founded Free State Army in 1922 after the war of independance. Sadley that is all that i know as the records from 1922 are scarce and the chances of finding a name of the soldier who was issued this bike are very slim.
I have been told that some bikes were re-issued in ww2
THIS BICYCLE IS NOT WW2
If anyone has any info about this bike or any pics of the Irish Army with bicycles they would be greatly appreaciated.
Thanks
Hi,
I have also seen Irish Army bicycle, but it a bracket on the bike to carry a rifle, there is one in the Carlow Military Museum. Does the bike have an FF crest on it anywhere?
