Trying to find a way to identify the artist that did these sketches. The sketches appear to be of a spaniel dog, different positions and different expressions. These were acquired a couple years ago found in a folder in a box lot. The puzzling fact is the paper the sketches are drawn on has a watermark, Cronicon usa. which was out in the 1950s. The photographic stamp on the backside reads Peter a Julie and Sons fine Photographers since 1886, with a New York address. Recent research has shown me that the Smithsonian Art Institute purchased the entire Julie collection negatives and photos. In the year 1975 when the son passed away. Peter a Julie and Sons photographs are definitely an historical collectible for he only took photographs of artist while working and their works. The Smithsonian Institute till this day cannot tell me who they even think the artist is. I have 15 sketches with photographs of four of the sketches taking by Peter a Julie and son. Any help in identifying the artist of these antique sketches would be greatly appreciated
Hi Mike, what wonderful sketches! The first one reminds me of this, I thought it was a Setter but after seeing your sketches maybe its a Spaniel :-S
