    ILoveRusty…

I recently started collecting old skeleton keys and found an unusual one. Its double ended. Its 5 1/4 inches long and about a 1/2 in diameter. Its rather heavy. Its hollow on one end. It has heavy patina and some surface rust. I'd like to know about how old it is and what a huge key like this would have bee used for.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I believe this is properly called a double bit key. I collected skeleton keys for a number of years and these were way out of my price range. Most I have seen were from France. I couldn't pay 2 or 3 hundred for one key.
