I found this dresser on the side of the road, it is quite old with dowel pins in it. Was missing a few knobs , but looks great painted with my own mix of chalk paint. Color is Ben Moore Ying Yang and the knobs are Valspar Mustard. Painted for a friends child's room.

I love ed the rose wood panels along w/ the chestnut ! So beautiful !! I wish I found that ! What u did is a nightmare to me ! That's all I do is refinish beautiful vintage / antique furniture. Hopefully someday you'll find someone like me to restore it to its hard work of intentionally natural beauty ! Thats not the right hardware. I'm saddened :(( ..........................?????????????
Well it didn't just need paint it had to be filled in with wood putty ect. I couldn't have brought it back to it's original finish. But maybe you can find one yourself and restore it the way you like. I like it fine just the way I did it.

Thank you kyratango, It would have been garbage truck food, and I grabbed it specifically for a young couple just starting out, new baby and no funds for furniture, so this is a gift to them.
Great job saving an antique.
I am not a fan of painting furniture, but the piece was SAVED and is now being used and probably cherished by the young couple you gave it to.
Down the road, someone may strip and refinish it to original looks.
I'd encourage you try and refinish a piece at some point. You may not find it as daunting once you get into it! And if it doesn't look right-- you can always paint it later.

Thank you Scott, I have refinished many pieces. I have done many different things with the furniture I either purchase or find. I don't find it as enjoyable, but to each his own.
I have only worked with wood for 50 years but paint is a lazy man's way of hiding sin. I know you don't like my comment and I hope you know I dislike how you detract from a piece because you are to lazy to do it right to preserve it and it's value.

I have been called a lot of things, but lazy has never been one them. I'm the hardest worker I know doing construction side by side with real men. But at any rate that is your opinion and I still stand by my paint job. And it is what I prefer to do, and since it is my dresser I guess I can do what I want with it.
I have never understood how differences of opinion/ judgement of antiques drifts into judgement of people and name calling.
I like natural wood-- you like painting. So be it! To each his own!
Please continue posting and ignore those that make it personal.

Thank You Scott, you said exactly what I was thinking. I belong to a number of sites and I've never had any one resort to name calling. And you are right to each his own. I welcome comments but not degrading comments. I appreciate your thoughts

Hi Izzy, Whys people giving you a hard time? I agree with Scott, you saved this from the tip. True it would look nice not painted but what you've done looks great, its looks smart, is usable and is Saved for future generations. Good on you!
Thanks for sticking up for me Vintagefran, I appreciate your comment. It's pretty funny because I ended up doing a modern dresser for the couple that needed it, and a elderly veteran bought the other one from me to bring home and refinish it to it's original finish. So he gets to enjoy doing something he loves and everyone's happy.
I love natural wood too, but I HATE waste. you did a good thing Izzy. Besides, finders, keepers. It was yours, and you did what you wanted. when we first were starting out, folks gave us furniture too, and it was a great help. I'm sorry for the rude comments of others, some really good people have left here because of it . That's my other hate, rude people... Sorry, I'll step off my soap box now. (and a good thing too, I'd probably crush it!!)
I want to Thank You, upstatenycollector, I do have to admit, that I thought about not participating in this website anymore, but then they would win and I am stronger than that. Unfortunately their are people everywhere that can't express themselves without being rude. And those people certainly do not represent all of the other wonderful people on Collectors Weekly like you.
