I found this little gem in a car boot recently. I'd guess that it's a pin hammer but I've never seen one like it. It's only 8 inches long and you can see where the metal's been folded on the handle, telling me that it's hand forged. Could it be an apprentice piece? Maybe it was made for a beekeeper or someone else that needs a pin hammer and claw handy in their pocket.
After a wire brush and some wax it's like new and I keep it in my pocket when looking through my bee hives.
Any thoughts? Anyone seen anything similar?
Thanks. Matt
I would say an upholstery hammer
Thanks Tom. Yes, that's the conclusion that I'm coming to. Having searched for anything that looks vaguely similar, only upholsterer's hammers have these features. I'd love to know when it was made but without any maker's marks on it I'd guess it was a one off. I may take it along to our local museum next week.
