The three piece mess tin was used to boil water in order to cook rice. The trays were used as plates. This piece is well used because the bottom of the cooker is black from continual use. The Japanese soldier scratched his name into all three pieces so they would not get mixed up with another soldier's mess tin pieces. Also shown is a wooden rice bowl with a lid, and a pair of wooden chopsticks with the carrying box with a sliding top.
