This post is dedicated to PatSea with many, many thanks.
I have known this painting since my earliest years. My parents house had a tiny storage room upstairs. It opened off my bedroom and the painting lay there propped against the wall. It had been a parting gift to my mother from a lady for whom she had worked.
Finally as an only child it fell to me to clear the house. I kept only small things, limited by how much the car would hold as I didn't live in England then. I tried to identify the painter at that time but failed.
Last week, whilst helping katherinescollections, PatSea suggested the site, www.signaturefinder.com. And you can guess the rest!
Otto Erdmann's works were mostly of 18th century interiors and frequently of just two people chatting. Three of his paintings are in British Museums. I'm only sorry my Mom never knew this. I'd already had it re-framed about two years ago.
