These are amongst my favourite purchases. I bought them knowing they were Welz as I had seen the self same shape in a very well known Welz decor. The lower part of the vase is eight sided.....four smooth and four horizontally ribbed sides.
Only when I unpacked them did I realise they were the known decor called Oxblood and Green. See Craig's site for more examples. The decor is oxblood and white spatter on green glass. In these the green is much stronger at the foot than at the rim. In the third picture the base glass looks almost clear at the rim.
Picture 4 shows them with my only other example of Oxblood and Green.
Height 20 cm./8 inches Diameter 8 cm./3 inches
Thanks for the loves, Moonstonelover, Ivonne and aghcollect
I'm bowled over by your compliment, nutsabotas, thank you.
The form and textured surface are fantastic! Great pair!
Thank you, Rick. I'm still not sure how I feel about earlier Welz.....I'm not even sure if these two are earlier Welz. Hmmm!
Cool & a pair :-))
Hi surfdub, happy you like them!
Lucky you ! It's always thrilling to find a pair of anything :)
Hmmm, mikelv, I will admit to coming round to a more conventional view of pairs. They do look good with a third....same decor, different shape. Peggy
Welz often seemed to do things differently to the other Czech makers of their time.
Who else would add the oxblood to the green, with white, AND have ribs and flutes added to an already great shape! Just awesome!!!
And this one's quite restrained compared to clear glass frills, feet, ruffs, hangings etc added to patterned glass ....not to mention enamelling and strutted legs. Bit like French clothing.....they didn't know when to stop!!!
This earlier Welz is a recent interest....just need to avoid the worst excesses! Tell me when i'm failing! Peggy
stunning!!!!
Thanks, SEAN, for the love and the enthusiasm!
