This is one of those pieces that makes your heart stop beating. I first saw this in a high end antique store in Heightstown, NJ. It was under the glass and slightly out of my price range. It sat, mostly because the owners never dropped the price, so sometime later I came back with an offer. We came to an agreement. What makes this piece special, of course, is the shallow carvings, the signs of use, and how primitively hand carved it is. The pestle, may be original to the piece, but is at least nearly as old.
This is a spectacular piece that I wanted to share with everyone on CW. It is only about 7 inches tall. I've seen similar ones in books and museums. It came from a Vermont Estate, and was likely used in a New England apothecary shop/drug store in the 1700's. Enjoy!
Not sure where to list this...please help!
thanks for the loves agram, mike, fortapache, vetraio, surfdub, agh, and blunder.
Love it I'm glad you finely got what you wanted it feels good doesn't it
thank you zowie! This is one of those pieces, for me, that does not come along too often. I do not throw around the word "antique" too often, but this is a true antique.
The funny part is that with items like this, you really never know. People have the ability to fake iron, wood, brass, furniture etc. But for this one I have to suspend my disbelief and just enjoy.
BHock I truly am happy for you & I agree it is easy in this day & age to fake so many items. I also do not use the word Antique very often unless I know it for a fact. Have a great day or evening what ever comes first for you. In another words just enjoy your time life's to short not to
