Bought this old mug at a consignment shop for 8 bucks. It just intrigued me as it has spikes on the bottom inside and I am not sure what the purpose of those spikes are. It says Williams patent triple plate on the outside bottom and there is a name? engraved on the side. I believe the name is Uno. Danderpool. but its hard to read as it's really fancy script. the mug is about 3 .5 inches tall. Anyone have any idea what it might have been used for? I need to clean it up but I don't think I will find any more marks on it as it just needs polishing and is in fairly good shape
I'm Wondering if it's a shave mug; the small spikes hold the soap in place when lathering the brush.
Just a thought,

TubeAmp nailed it as usual! Shaving cup it is indeed. https://www.google.se/patents/US229067?dq=%22june+22,1880%22+williams&hl=sv&sa=X&ei=qoYjVc-4Jsa_PKbvgZAN&ved=0CG8Q6AEwCTgK
Probably "Vanderpool"
