Remember those days when we used to drive up to the Serivce Station and say "filler up with Regular" and it only cost us about $3-$5 for a tank of gas? Those were the days! Of course I worked for $1.25/hr in those days, but we don't talk about that part. This old tall pump from the 30s-40s is at aaaLakeside Storage along with about 100 more pumps and it is a classic reminder of the Good Ol days! I loved those days. Romantic music, dancing that was dancing and not just jumping around like Natives in a War Dance of some kind. Those were the days of Perry Como and Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole etc. When I see these old gas pumps I'm reminded of all the cool things that were associated with our fast cars, cute girls, cheap gas, and a lot of good clean fun where no one ever hurt anyone else. Keep on hunting and it will remind you of those wonder Years as well!
As a kid, I vaguely remember 28¢ & it seems to me that I have seen 18.7¢ during gas wars. I had to start buying my own gas in late 1957. Maybe it was that cheap because the dinosaurs had only died off a few decades before I was born! LOL!
I think your observation is right. I remember as a kid riding my bike down to LaBrea tar pits in Los Angeles and seeing oil wells all around it that reminded me of the days before the Good of Days we reminice about; The fabulous fifties. Those were wonderful days.
Well, think of it this way. The worthlessness of the U.S. dollar is about 1/10 of back then, so that would be about the equivalent of $2.80 now. Not so far off!
The U.S. gov't is the largest counterfeiting ring in the world!
lol.....by the Tankful !!
Rattletrap, there's not a straightman left. LOL.
Gas from antique gas pumps actually makes a vehicle run. Gas from govt seems to make economies run as long as people believe it works. Blunderbuss might just have it right? Stock Market is up in direct proportion to the leveraged finds borrowed? Sound like another Bubble? I'll stick with old gas pumps and porcelain signs and memories of the Good old days when we actually paid for things as we needed them.
That's why I collect also, brings back memories of those younger years, $3 for gas and cruising around all night or head to the drag races on Fri. night or get a 6-pack and head to the drive-in, fun, fun, fun !
