I was looking at Replacements.com and I see a big difference in price for what looks like the same plate. How do I identify which is which?
Example salad plate is $25.99 Ironstone and $6.99 for 1883 stamp only
Basic question is:
What markings or other differences identify ironstone versus '1883 stamp only'?
I do see that one is 7-5/8" and the other is 7-7/8" is that as good as it gets for recognizing the difference?
The size works for the salad plate... but for the rimmed soup plate, they are the same size.
The 1883 refers to the date the backstamp was used. It is an old mark used until 1913. This pattern has been around for a long time, and was very popular, in fact we had it in our family growing up in in the 1960’s. The value is is the older pieces. You marks appear to be newer, obviously the piece that says "Microwave safe” being the newest. Here is a link to some of the older marks

Oops, I misread your question. I believe that the replacements one that says “1883’ stamp refers to the pieces made in China, that I believe say “Established in 1883
