My micro-collection of Charles Lotton pieces grew by one this week. The Multi Flora line is probably one of Lotton's most distinctive. He first started making them in 1974. This example is 5" tall, and is signed and dated "Charles Lotton 1976" on one side of the base and "Multi Flora" on the other. According to the book Lotton Art Glass, by D. Thomas O'Connor and Charles G. Lotton, (as of 1990) most Multi Flora vases were done on a ground of clear crystal (fourth photo is a scan from the book of a "verre de soie" example). To quote Mr. Lotton, "Exceptions are the occasional use of light amber, and on special occasions, light blue". I don't know what the special occasion was for the making of this vase, but finding it, for me, turned out to be a special occasion almost 40 years in the making!

How wonderful! So glad you have added a piece that you really wanted that is always a special thing. Thank you for sharing it here. I had not noticed his work until you did and it is lovely. You have to love that one can with the click of the CW button be faced with never ending opportunities to be exposed to wonderful things and learn and learn and learn.
      Sincerely,
      Lisa

Well, in fairness I should say that my interest in this artist's work is rather new. I haven't been waiting 40 years to find one - but it did take 40 years after it was made for me to discover it! The more of his work I see, the more I appreciate it :)
