i wish i could read the back of it, but i can't make it out. can you? this piece is 7 inches tall. i'd like to know who made it and where it's from.

It's a popular souvenir Kwakiutl-style totem pole. with a standard stamp, saying:
Genuine Indian Made
Hand Carved
By Chief White Eagle
Although there were some Native American tribal chiefs named White Eagle, they were from Plains Indians tribes or Northeastern tribes, who had no association with totem poles.
"Chief White Eagle" has been a common name associated with a variety of Native American kitsch items and Hollywood creations for the mass market. This may have been painted by a Native American worker, but it's unlikely his/her real name was "Chief White Eagle".
Although real totem poles are made by only a handful of Pacific Northwest tribes, these 1950's-era souvenirs were often sold in gift shops across the country, where ever there was a local Native American presence.
