I found this old gentleman hanging out in the showcase at Salvation on half price day. Interesting if a bit creepy he's in fairly good shape except for the three inch hairline crack. It doesn't show from the outside but is clearly seen on the inside. A search for his maker is turning up nothing except Royal Doulton character jugs which he is not. Nor is he Staffordshire, Beswick, or Homesea. or any other English pottery. Maybe German or Czech. The only "Amphora " I can find online are classic Greek urns and German art Nouveau pottery by Stellmacher. The Anfora mark seems to be generic for some other company. So far no luck in finding out who. -Mike-

Hi,Mike.I've found Anfora here http://vintagemexican.com/pottery/jan-213-555/pottery-562-andora-dishes.html .The sign of anfora/amphora seems to be the same.

Thanks Ivonne :)...I did run across that in my searching, but he sure doesn't look like Mexican pottery which is mostly red clay. So I'm still thinking Euro of some kind. Amphora is kind of a generic name used by a few companies. I'm sure I'll find it eventually if I look hard enough.

Thanks CindB :) ...they are so indelibly linked to Royal Doulton that no matter what I call them the search returns the Doulton ones. This is a real puzzler.
