Rare 1960's Murano glass cat decanter with white eyes. The fourth picture is the original label for Bischoff Cherry Wine which it is missing . The handmade ebony glass is gorgeous and those eyes just follow you around! If you hold it up to a light it appears to look a deep purple. It has a curled tail and open mouth. It sits flat in a recumbent pose. Excellent condition. It measures 10" long x 5" tall.
He is SWEET....I can see the Amethyst ( in the 3rd pic) at his Right ear
Love it !!
Thank You antiquerose I wish I knew more about the little guy!
Such a "Cool Cat" Dave! It appears to be mold blown, so I don't believe it's Murano. A Murano piece would be pulled and formed. As for it being a decanter or perfume bottle... I would expect the hole to be higher up to prevent seepage through the cork, but who knows? Either way, its a fun piece!
Totally off on this Dave. It is in fact Murano and was made by Archimede Seguso in 1969. I was doing some research on behalf of another collector when I came across this: http://postimg.org/image/c3l0m0lfr/ "Seguso made figural bottles for Bischoff, a firm in Trieste Italy. These were not in two parts (as were the others he made for Luxardo) but in one, and were not solid, but hollow (which is what led me to believe it was mold blown). Because these animal sculptures were also utilitarian, many were broken or discarded. Originally limited editions, they've become even more limited by use and abuse". As you can see by the picture, it is documented - along with some of his other figural bottles. You can find these in Leslie Pina's book "Archimede Seguso, Mid-Mod Glass From Murano Lace & Stone, page 179. I hope this is the information you were looking for. -Rick
