Just because it's the little things that interest me at times. This bag of marbles was in a drawer at my mother's house with the price tag still attached. It was purchased sometime around 1940 if I'm not mistaken at Arnim and Lane Mercantile in Flatonia, TX. I've included a picture of the store from the 1890's which is now a museum. My mother was born and raised in Flatonia in 1923, and until recently lived independently. While packing her apartment, I found so many treasures. She collected a little bit of everything. I picked this item as my first post because it reflects the way she collected things. She was forever getting something just to put it away. Every time I joked with her about these things she told me, "Everything will be worth something someday." Some things have monetary value one day, while others may just tell a story. Whatever the case, there is value in everything.
Wonderful post, love the photo too!
Poor kids here still play marbles and dominoes. Better off kids have parents that buy them off with a computer or other game system. Taking a walk and seeing kids playing marbles is a fun thing. The kids actually get to interact face to face real time. Old world fun.
