In another thread related to "twisted nailsea"' there was discussion related to Stuart's fairy lamp design Rd 53731-33. This lamp is so unusual and so rare, I thought I would share it with you.

The lamp appears to be a relief cameo design with a base glass of transparent Aqua color. This is the only example I am aware of and I would not surprised if it is a one-of-a-kind. That said, I would love to hear of anyone who has seen another complete lamp, part, or a variant in perhaps a different color.

This design was registered in 1886. It was at the very beginning of the decorative era of Clarke's fairy lamps. Did Clarke commission Stuart to produce this lamp? I have no evidence but it seems unlikely that Stuart would have produced this lamp on their own. In 1886, Clarke was just beginning to reach out to prominent glass house to produce his fairy lamps, Stuart was very likely one of them.

If anyone has any additional information of Stuart's line of fairy lamps, I would love to hear from you.

    Jim

Stunning. All your lamps are wonderful, but this is my favourite. I love the blue.

There are many rare fairy lamps, but this may the the rarest of all. Over the years, many have been called "one of a kind" only to discover other examples in the coming years. If I was a betting man, I would bet there is not another like this one. I would dearly love some one to prove me wrong.
