This lamp was inherited by me from an 86 year old lady when she passed away. She had always told me that it belonged to her husbands mother. He died when he was 80. I can't find any identifying marks on it and would like to know who made it and anything else I can find out about it. Thanks!.
Is that glass? Tiffany?
It is glass. Don't know about the Tiffany part. I haven't found any lamps with this design made by Tiffany. Wish it was LOL
I think it is probably about 90-100 years old. I can remember it in Dorothy's house when I was a small child and I am 61. Her husbands mother had been dead for a number of years by then. Everything is original except it has a different cord on it.The cord has a round plug on it so that was put on some years ago also. I am not sure if the base is brass or bronze. I am afraid to try to clean it. Any suggestions?
I would have it appraised.
Where would I take it to get it appraised?
Look on the internet, or in the yellow pages. There are appraisers and auction houses everywhere. The two normally go hand and hand.
I have a feeling it is by Whaley. Do NOT clean the bronze, just dust & have it appraised. Any breaks or cracks will bring the value down in line with the severity.
I write about stained glass lamps fairly often: http://www.views-from-north-cecil.blogspot.com/
It doesn't have any cracks or breaks anywhere. thanks for you comment.
This lamp was made by Lamp Bros. Current auction value is $800.00-$1,200.00 if in mint condition.
If you go to http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/circa-1915-lamb-brothers-nappanee-leaded-glass you can see one that sold for $600 on eBay.
