Planters' Peanuts premiums, what a great part of the USA's history!
The first image shows a variety of Planters' objects…a drink stirrer, a straw, and two Mr. Peanut whistles. These all might be dated from the 60s, and could be obtained from Planters by sending them empty Planters' products containers (as proof of purchase). They could also be purchased at the many Planters' Peanut stores that were once common across the USA
Obviously, the second image details the whistles. Each is about 6.5Cm tall, and emit an attention grabbing sound. Besides red and orange, such whistles were issued in other colors, some being more rare than others.
Such items were a big part of many 50s-60s era kids life.
Planters is now part of Kraft Foods. Whatever happened to stand alone businesses in the USA? It seems as if every product is actually under the ownership of big conglomerates, Kraft, for example.
Thank you aghcollect, I appreciate the love!
I used to send the wrappers in during the mid and late 1950's. Mr. Peanut was a status symbol back then.
We used to buy these things on the boardwalk in Atlantic City NJ at the Planters Peanut Store about 1965.
Ron, I recall that Planters had stores in NYC, Atlantic City, and of course in their home city of Wilkes-Barre, PA.
I was also fascinated by the roasters where a mechanical Mr. Peanut would sit atop, and in synch with the roaster, appear to make the peanuts rotate in the device!
Yes, fhrjr2, i did the same as a youth!
Thank you, Mani!

Hello, V-97……thanks for loving these collectibles!
Yeah, and they'll be laughing even harder, and will have to hire more accountants to count the money when there are only a few food production and distribution companies in existence :( !!!!!

Hi, Val…thanks for the thoughtful comments. No, i can't recall he items that you mentioned. I do recall "prizes" in cereal boxes, and "sending away" for other items. It always seemed like a mullion years before the things would arrive :)
Attached is a reference re: to what company owns what . I'm sure that other businesses that we think are independent are not :(
What a coincidence…some of my relatives work at GM, too. In Buffalo. There's a big Cheerios plant there. I think that they make Gold Medal Flour there, too, or at least they used too!
I have a Mr. Peanut bank presently. I had more "stuff" as a kid…but over time, who knows what happened to most of it ? :)
Have a fine day, my friend….It's good sharin thoughts with you!
