I have a thing about Murano blackamoor figurines. I don't know what it is, but I love them. This one is a departure from the classic candleholder as the figure is depicted holding a bowl of polychrome fruit. It's a good size measuring 12" tall and in pristine condition. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find an attribution. As always, thanks for looking.
There are several possibilities, but I lean towards Ercole Barovier for Barovier & Toso. Here's an example: https://www.antiquehelper.com/item/353124
Thank you Twentiethc. It's so hard with blackamoors as most share similar features. There are so few that are actually documented that it's hard to identify the particular details used by one designer over another. If we had more pieces that could be definitely attributed -either by label or reference book- it would be much easier to compare the specific characteristics from one to the other. I have considered Barovier, but being that so many are attributed to him, some correctly and most incorrectly, it's difficult to pinpoint specific elements common to each. The base on the example you provided, is similar to other Barovier's I've seen, but I just don't know about mine. I appreciate your help.
Thanks for the love Vetraio, it's appreciated.
I wonder if they still pull the type of money they use to do a few years ago
Thanks for the love Zowie. No, unfortunately the prices are still down from where they were some years back.
A beautiful example ....great colors!
Thanks for the kind comment and love Artglass, it's appreciated.
That's a shame because I was surprised at what they use to pull
That's the nature of collecting Zowie, prices go up and prices go down. What's collected today falls out of favor tomorrow. Thanks for the love Manikin and Aghcollect, it's appreciated.
Love, and LOVED !!
Stunning Piece Rick!! I love Figurines -- Such works of true Decorative Art !!!!!!!
Gorgeous, as are they all! As the figurine is offering the fruit, do you think you may, one day, find the receiving figurine? Just a flight of fancy!!!
I am loving all of your blackamores Rick. They appeal to me more than the usual Murano figures...maybe it's the contrast? I just find them more interesting and get your love of them!
