Can anyone tell me the name of the designer of this chair? I would love to know more, because I would be happy to find a matching side table (if one exists). I have 2 of these that were my Grandmother's from the late 50's or early 60's...she cannot remember exactly when she bought them. The original upholstery was green. They are made by Tell City Chair Co. (Indiana). Unfortunately the stickers are mostly torn off, but I can make out #34 DEN. Thanks!

That's lovely. I have a small desk that was my fathers (1960s, also Danish Modern) that has the same legs at the bottom. My mother never liked it, so it was in the basement (so lucky me, I got it :-) Mine has no markings though. (Now that you're picture got me thinking about it, I'll ask him to see if he remembers anything more and maybe it will be a hint for both of us...) If I find out more, I'll let you know.

Thanks, sean68 & cwacct! How nice to have a desk with no markings! My chairs are looking pretty well used. From my research, I think they are an American copy of a design by Peter Hvidt, although I wish I knew the exact year.

That's interesting to know. On my end, I did ask my folks... Unfortunately, they don't remember where they got it, but they do know my father had it before he was married (1965) and he lived in New York... So, they're assuming he bought it locally.

I say 1960's - What is under the bottom cushion, weaved canvas type OR kinda like big elastics ? We had one with the big elastics and a bit different style

antiquerose - the support under the bottom cushions were like a rubbery elastic...but they were pretty much disintegrated, with no stretch left. I replaced them with the Pirelli elastic webbing and the 2" webbing clips. Grandma seems
convinced she got them in the 50's, but who knows?!

I also recently acquired one of these chairs and after much research, have compiled a Pinterest board specifically dedicated to the Tell City Chair Co. Danish Modern line.
