This poster is signed by designer and illustrator, Marc D Meissner. this is from the Kings features syndicate . The 13th annual TOYFEST in East Aurora New York. number 405/1200. I have been trying to find information on the illustrator with no luck. the picture is of the 1937 cowboy Popeye toy. any help would be greatly appreciated !
Mystery Solved:
This Poster was Available Only at the 1999 Toyfest in East Aurora, New York...Heavy Weight Poster Paper...Poster Measures 25 1/2 Inches Wide x 18 Inches Tall...Printed Area Measures 22 Inches Wide x 14 3/4 Inches Tall...Bottom Left Marked: "1999 TOY TOWN U.S.A. EAST AURORA, N.Y."...Bottom Center Reads: "DESIGNED AND ILLUSTRATED BY MARC MEISSNER"...Bottom Right Marked: "1999 KING FEATURES SYNDICATE, INC. TM OF THE HEARST CORPORATION"
The above information is for the poster itself and it sells for approximately $44.00 That being said, the fact that you have BOTH a signature from the illustrator and a numbered copy of limited editions would only bring the current value higher. It would be correct to assume that Marc D Massier was the illustrator of this poster and that he ONLY signed a total of 1200 copies, your copy would obviously be #405 of the 1200. I highly doubt they printed any special edition lithograph for this image to be signed. What you most likely have is a signed and numbered copy of the original poster. Either way a good find and cool poster if you like Popeye! Hope I was of some help.
