    Correct me if I am wrong... sadly I was not taught to sew!!! I am thinking of learning actually!
    It is my understanding that these items are for darning stockings? Is that correct?

      It seems they were used for making crocheted buttons (Google tutorials) and I saw light lace curtains hung on these too!

      The stocking darkness were not for nylon or silk stocking. I think only for woolens.

      I don't know what stocking darkness is - clearly my tablet doesn't like stockings.

      Ahhhhh ha..... nowwe may know about this embroidary framed village i have with crochet flowers... and i cant sew at all.... phooey... may have to learn!,

      Not always crochet - there's a sewing technique for what are called "death head buttons".
