Dogs were clearly much more cherished than cats, as you can find many more of them immortalized.
The first two sets of photos are Victorian period all painted from the back of polished rock crystal orbs. The spaniel in photo 2, top has a lovely 14K gold collar as the frame.
The bracelet and the beagle, I believe are later, as I think the covers are lucite, but a bit outside the typical styles you see. They also are set in 14K gold.

They are neat, earlier are so life like with expression and little tong shown!
I'm surprised bracelet and beagle beeing lucite, never seen such quality of engraving in this material.
I got one similar to the first hairy terriers and badly regret to have sold it... I have only some pics left :-/
