Looking for info or identification on this hand-carved folding bench. A gift from a client when she was moving. I think she said South American in origin , Dorothy + Jim traveled quite a bit. Anyone ever seen anything like it?

My parents in law bought one during a trip in French Guyane, which make sense with the South Amercan origin sid! Same folding system, but with decorative geometric engraved pattern. This is cut from one piece of wood
