The "Golden Dragon" is the ruler of the 180th parallel. When passing over this spot, a sailor would get these credentials. Click on the pic above and read as to all this paper addresses. This paper was to signify to all "landlubbers, opium smokers, chit signers, squaw men & others, that the "undersigned" was a member in good standing. My dad who was in the Army during world war two passed over this spot while on-board the S.S. Fairisle going to yet another combat zone. I guess items like this helped take their minds off the war, if only for a little while. It's addressed to my dad and signed on April 8th 1945. There was, at this time, only a little more than 4 months of fighting left before the war came to an end. Kinda neat if you ask me...

Yes "Mermaids" I love Mermaids. How could I have mentioned anything about this piece and left them out. It's almost inexcusable. So sorry. lol This plaque or certificate or whatever one would call it, just appeared as I was going through a couple drawers. I had seen it before, buy it had been some time and frankly, had I never seen it again, I wouldn't have missed it. Now that is sad & scary. Now that I have re-discovered it. I will find somewhere to hang it. I think it's really cool. But also, thank you Dottie, really, for taking a look and for your comment.

Thank you again AR8Jason. I just went to the link and saw both ships. That is so cool to be able to see the exact ship my dad was on. He may have been on board when this shot was taken. I've saved it to my photos so I can show my 13 & 15 year old boys. Thank again.

I received my certificate for the "Domain of the Golden Dragon" for crossing the international dateline in 1966 in route to Vietnam. I was on the U.S.N.S. General John Pope, a troop carriere from WWII. Great page!
