I found this chair in a trash pile by the side of the road last week. It had been rained on and was covered in mildew down to the frame. When I was removing the upholstery, I found what I believe to be horse hair stuffing. There are no screws in the chair and its put together with dowels and nails. It also has hand tied springs.
I saved all of the stuffing from the chair and tried to wash it in pillowcases. Even though I've washed the hair several times, it still has an odor. Is there any way to get the smell out or should I just call it a loss and buy new stuffing? And what is the best way to get mildew off of the wood? Also, is there any way to figure out how old the chair is?
