Date: probably 19th century to be precise: 1896 - 1908 this kind of mark was used. - Condition: perfect
Small silver dagger pendant in sheath, my research leads to presuppose that this could be a former Russian wedding silver belt buckle. The cyrillic writing on top part is: Caucasus.
Dimensions: dagger sheathed 9 cm in total, this pendant 17 inches long
There are many different labels such as a woman's head with the number 84 on the knife and the star-shaped mark surmounted by a crescent for original object. And a makers mark a Cyrillic letter for L and K that I've found on Antique Russian Silver makers :

Part of a folk costume ?

It's definitely not a part of a belt buckle because therefore it's far too large (17 inches long) but it really could be a part of a folk wedding costume. I've already published a Niello Silver Russian belt buckle so I know the measures. It's indeed written Caucasian but made in former Russia now Ukraine capital Kiev.

Hi Agram! I can't make out the cyrillic writing on top part...
I think it could be a chatelaine device or a watch fob.
If the writing is a city name, could be a souvenir :-)
kyratango thanks for your comment, love and suggestion. The Cyrillic writing is called: Caucasus. The seller told me that this type of sword was used specially to hang on the belt buckle of the groom.

The Caucasus resort towns were popular vacation places at the turn of the 20th century due to climate, air, and mineral springs, and resort visitors would buy souvenirs made in traditional styles to take home. A dagger is an important part of the traditional ethnic outfit and I believe 100 years ago a groom would wear a real dagger (albeit not the everyday working version) for his wedding. The decorative ones bearing the word "???????" would be made for tourists, just like the souvenirs we see being sold in Paris, Rome, or any major city nowadays.
I see the Cyrillic font didn't go through, those question marks were supposed to be spelling "Caucasus".

Hi, I am new to CW and also have an interest in this dagger. I have what I believe to be a 19th century Russian dagger with sheath and the 84 Russian silver mark and a city mark that I cannot quite make out could be Kiev or could be St Petersburg It also has a medallion with chain and seems to be attached by a chatelaine type hook also. My dagger also has niello finish. I am going to attempt to post it with photos in the sterling silver category also. Please take a look and tell me what you think. It has darkened considerable over the years. It belonged to my father but had been in the care of my sister who left it out for display and it has tarnished considerably. I have not polished it, it's tempting but I am resisting. Mine is 9" long and a bit different than this one but there are similarities and writing in cyrillic as well.
I decided to post it in MIlitary instead of jewelry, wondering if you think this one is also a wedding dagger, could be because the blade is not sharp.
Gamania thanks for your extensive comment and love. But I think (my dagger don't belong to military. This is because this dagger too little total is not sharp to serve as a potential weapon. An As you said yourself, this is a symbolic piece of jewelry worn by a groom. But as I said a piece of jewelry and in my opinion should therefore at home with the jewelry section. Of course I will certainly take a look at your dagger and give you also my comment up there.

There was no "post this item" at the bottom of the page, so I clicked on "save" and it said waiting while it was saved. If you save an item where does it go. I list on ebay all the time and I have no trouble so I am used to doing this but found only save not post.

Budding in here sorry I have had the same problem in the past you go through all the motions & you think it's going to post as it say only it doesn't show up & then I have to repost until it does.
