This little blue vase was our only purchase in Vienna during our Austro-Hungarian holidays (Vienna/Budapest in a non stop walking and museum visiting fever that lasted ten days). As I wanted to visit certain building we ended up in this area far from the touristic atractions and we found this little antique shop. There were two Lötz vases there: a big Diaspora at quite a nice price -but far too big to carry it safely during the rest of our holidays... such a pity- and this small tango vase. I have to say it was I who found it on a lower shelf at a cheap-glass filled cabinet and at once knew it was something good. The price was excellent too as the lady didn't have it identify it as Lötz.
The main feature on is is the enamel decor that we've been able to identify as designed by Marey Beckert-Schider. I asked Jericho about it as soon as we found it as he had a simmilar one on one of his posts, and then we found a pic of a Beckert-Schider design (pic.4) on page 25 at the book Das Böhmische Glas 1700-1950, Band IV art Deco - moderne, published by the Passauer Glasmuseum.
There's one other thing that makes this vase special and it's the fact of the glass being opaque at the top but becoming more transparent towards the base (pic.3). And something that's even more amazing although it cannot be appreciated on the pic: if you look through it against a strong light -on the pic is against the kitchen window, but we've got a pretty cloudy day today, plus the window faces a patio- you can appreciate the orange-ish tones of opalines, something I haven't found in other tango items from our collection.
