Just inherited a doll from my Grammie that she received from someone when she was a little girl. From what I've researched, she was made in 1909 by Schoenau & Hoffmeister. He has a PB in a star on the back of her neck and the SH logo as well as "1909" and "4 1/2." I have been able to find information about the company in general but have found no other information on what the 4 1/2 means or another doll that looks the same as she does. Her joints all move as well as her eyes. She is not in her original clothing. My main goal is to find out if I need to get a rider on my homeowners' insurance for her. Thanks in advance!
Hi your doll is mold 1909 a dolly face the 4 1/2 is just head size . It is just a number they picked on Old bisque dolls so they could easily match the right size head t right body size .
You do not need a rider on insurance , Her value does not warrant it
The Schoenau & Hoffmeister porcelain factory, also known as Porzellanfabrik Burggrub, was located in Burggrub, Germany and was founded by Arthur Schoenau and Carl Hoffmeister in 1901. By 1907 the two partners were in disagreement to the type of porcelain heads for their dolls. Hoffmeister insisted on producing shoulder head dolls, while Schoenau wanted to produce socket head dolls. Unable to resolve there differences Carl Hoffmeister left and Arthur Schoenau became the sole owner.
Completed sales and that depends on no damage or cracks to head . She is a rather common German Bisque doll but beautiful and your very lucky to have received her .

The 1909 is not date she was made it is how to identify the dolls face and the mold they used to make her . Does she have teeth ?
Thank you so much for the information! No, Manikin, she does not have teeth. How do I tell how old she is then?
Is her mouth open ? That is important can you photo her face straight one or is there a gap between lips ?
She does date after 1901 up to late 1920's . She is a socket head on a fully articulated composition body .
Can you photo her so I can see mouth ,she does have a replaced wig also .
I can't see body but it may have been repainted also .
Manikin, I posted a couple more pictures. She does have parted lips and has four teeth. Thanks so much for all the help!
Thank you I wondered why she did not have teeth :-) Ok she is solved and a beauty too !!
Thank you so much! I wish they had been given names or something! I've decided I'll name her my Grammie's middle name, Elizabeth!
Sounds like a beautiful name :-)
