Finding myself in a sentimental mood, so I'm posting WWII Navy cartoons imagined aboard PCS-1402, a wooden patrol craft. My dad did these to pass the time - between typhoons and action - while in the South Pacific. The entire high school football team was drafted just after graduating. Because he is not sentimental, the deterioration is due to the scrapbook being stored in an old dresser in the garage for 3o+ years. Although nowhere near professional level, I was a bit taken aback when I discovered it because he had never taken an art class nor gave an indication that he ever possessed any sort of artistic inclinations whatsoever.
From the time I was about 4 years old, every Sunday morning he would ask if I wanted to 'study the funny pages', so I suppose he helped teach me to read and appreciate comic strips :)

PCS 1402 was known as a submarine chaser sweeper. Built in 1944 by the Colberg Boat Works, Stockton, California. Commissioned on Jan 13, 1944, under Lt Henry E Taylor USNR. The ship Participated in the Okinawa campaign. PCS 1402 was decommissioned on March 27, 1946. The Navy sold the ship in 1947 to a private party and it was then registered as a 237 ton Freighter called Kate H, in 1948 it was registered as a 237 ton tug boat called Colonal, in 1954 it was registered a fishing boat still called the Colonal, in 1956 it was registered as a 228 ton fishing boat called Frenchman.
