Can I say this is a generic Murano facted vase and not sound insulting?
It's purple (tick), beautifully finished (tick), great optics (tick), but it looks like lots of others.....

Good question Ken.
Murano is an island in the sea lagoon at Venice and for many hundreds of years it has been the centre of glassmaking. The development of most of the incredible and difficult glass techniques has been there, and it is recognised as the base of art glass. Glass maestros work there and so any glass from Murano is consideredreally high quality. Most is. Like anything though, the name has been used by many and is often attributed to glass which is repro, similar, or just rubbish.
Murano is a place, not a brand name.
I get annoyed often because of the hype surrounding Murano glass, but the truth is true Murano glass is excellent.
That's my take anyway!
Take care Ken!

Nice prism cutted vase. Did they sign these? First there was place then it came brand ;)
Wonderful!
Beautiful;-)
I love these vases Karen!! The prism-like form and colors are striking!
Joe these vases never see to be signed. They were made by a number of studios on Murano but also this style was made by producers from Czechoslavakia to Germany to Scandinavia! I only know this is Muranese because of the sticker.
Thanks again Elisabeth and surfdub - I'm always happy to hear from you.
Optics are great with all that cutting - thanks Rick.
