Picked this neat little Victorian tile up from Salvation this morning. Nice raised shell and swag design in pastel colors. Someone had glued a paper clip to the back as a hanger. At least they didn't cover up the Trent mark on the back. The Trent Tile Company, Trenton, NJ was in business from 1882-1939. Trent was an early prolific pottery that made outstanding dust-pressed, high-glazed tiles. Some are figural and very three dimensional and required three to six tiles to complete one figure. Lots of border and field tiles as well. They can be quite expensive. Some costing a hundred dollars for just one where the figures can be several hundred to thousands. This one is pretty but being just a border piece it's not worth all that much. Wish there had been a whole box full ! -Mike-
Thanks Ken :) ....Someone had brought in the figural ones on Antiques Roadshow a few weeks ago and they explained about Trent. Those were really beautiful too.
Super Find MIKE!!
Gotta love the "Antiques Roadshow" -- My Fav.......LOL
Thanks Rose :) .... I'm a bit bummed though... I didn't get picked to receive tickets for the Cleveland show. I got the "sorry your e-mail was not selected" message from the ticket checker on their website :(
