This is pink, white and green aventurine with a white inner and cased in clear. Image four is looking down on the lid and you can see there is a hole. This is 'closed' by the base of the clear glass knob which is then pulled up into the shape of a leaf. Perhaps there is a technical reason for making the lid in this way.
It's totally whimsical...it narrows too much in the middle to have had any purpose as far as I can see...so why the lid?
Height 20cm./8 inches
beautiful!!
Novel thing on the top !!!!!
Very interesting !!
Thank you so much SEAN, for both love and comment!
I'd have to agree with you vetraio.....interesting can have so many meanings!!!!
Your very welcome sklo!!!
I love these colors together, pink and green, looks like spring. :)
Thanks Katherine, love these colours myself!!
This is an outstanding find. I have seen one other pair of pieces similar to this with a kind of "trophy vase" shaped body with a lid. A unique lidded urn, in one of my favorite Welz decors. On a side note, I have cadmium spatter biscuit jar with the same style of finial. Kind of a flamer or twisted leaf....
Love this one!!
These colours again!Beautiful!
With the lid it seems more finished,I think.
OK Craig it's an urn and an outstanding find.....I' m totally made up.....i.e. pleased.
Thank you.....nice to own a rarity!
If you look at this image, you will see that the trophy vase with handles and no lid in the front center, is primarily the same shape. There is a slight modification to the mouth of the vase, but a basically similar form.

Yes Ivonne, you are right....with the lid on, the curving shape comes to a natural end and is topped off by the finial.
I see that Craig. I also have a very similar one with a much wider, gilded neck in yellow spatter. As I get more interested in victorian? Welz I'm starting to think there may be much to discover.
